From the window "Manage your server" can make various tasks for Windows Server 2003, by clicking on "Add / Remove function". This window will show it each time we want to 'Start' – 'settings' – 'control Panel' – 'Administrative tools' – "Manage your server":
Click "Next" to select the function to be installed:
From this window you can configure the server to:
- File server.
- Print server.
- Server applications (IIS, ASP.NET).
- (POP3, SMTP) mail server.
- Terminal Server.
- Remote access/VPN server.
- Controller domain (Active Directory).
- DNS server.
- DHCP server.
- Po streaming media server.
- WINS server.
As example will install Active Directory, we will promote this server to primary domain controller. To be the first, we will create a new domain:
The wizard will show the following window, indicating the selected option to install:
With the text: run the Wizard Active Directory installation in order to configure this server as a domain controller.
This promotion of server window (installation of Active Directory Services) domain controller, it is also possible to open it directly from the "Start" – "Run", typing "dcpromo" and pressing "OK":
We will mark "Domain controller for a new domain" since it is the first domain controller in our Organization and we have to create a new domain. If we already have a domain controller, we mark "Additional domain to an existing domain controller":

Enter the DNS name of the domain, in our case "ajpdsoft.com":
Enter the NetBIOS name of the domain, in our case "Angry":
Select the location of the Active Directory database and the Active Directory log:
We will also indicate the location of the shared system volume folder, this folder stores the copy for the public archives of the domain server. The contents of the SYSVOL folder is replicated on all the domain within the domain controllers:
If any error occurs in the preliminary diagnosis he shall state in the next window. For example, we have tried to put as domain name "ajpdsoft.com", which is an existing Internet domain and that does not support dynamic updates, so it will show this error:
The diagnosis of registration was executed 1 time.
Warning: domain controller functions, such as joining a domain, log on to a domain, and replicate Active Directory will not be available until the Active Directory DNS infrastructure is properly configured.
The Wizard encountered an error while trying to determine if the DNS server with which this domain controller will register supports dynamic updates.

Dynamic DNS update compatibility test returned:
"Key DNS wrong."

So you can press 'Back' and rectify potential problems, in our case check "Install and configure this computer to use this DNS server as the preferred". In the next window mark "Permissions compatible only with Windows 2000 or Windows Server operating systems Server 2003". Only it is advisable to check the "Permissions compatible with pre-Windows 2000 Server operating systems" if we have a server with an operating system than Windows 2000 (Windows NT) or a domain created with a Windows NT Server:
Enter the password for the directory services restore mode Administration:
The Active Directory Installation Wizard will show a summary of the selected options, if everything is correct click "Next" to start the process:
The wizard will show us the progress and tasks you are performing to install Active Directory:
In this process it will ask you for the installation of Windows Server 2003 CD:
After the Active Directory installation process, you show us a window indicating the end of the process:
With the text:
Active Directory is installed on this computer for the domain ajpdsoft.com.
This domain controller is assigned to the default-first-site-name site. The sites are managed with the sites and services Active Directory administrative tools.
After the restart, the wizard will display a window indicating that the server is now a domain controller:
We will already have Active Directory, you can create objects in the Active Directory (users, groups, printers, etc.):
From "Users and computers Active Directory" allows you to create new computers, contacts, groups, printers, users, shared folders, etc.:
We will also be able, by pressing with the right button of the mouse on the name of the "ajpdsoft.com" domain, selecting "master of operations…":
